FBCD Prayer Room Ministry

The Intercessory Prayer Ministry of First Baptist Church, DeRidder was initiated on March 26, 1984. Originally called the “Upper Room” Prayer Ministry, its primary purpose was to be a telephone prayer ministry where “anyone with a burden or special prayer need” could call the prayer room Monday through Friday. If the caller wished, the Prayer Room volunteer would add the caller's name to a daily prayer list and pray with the caller at that time. One week before the first Prayer Room hour was manned, our church came together during the Sunday morning worship service on March 18th for a “Prayer Commitment Day” and prayed for the Prayer Ministry.  The volunteers were recognized and the congregation was asked to join them in a special prayer of support and commitment. 

Today, the Prayer Room continues to exist to pray on behalf of our congregation in confession, praise, worship, thanksgiving, petition, and intercession. Prayer is a relationship that God has with His children in which we talk with our Heavenly Father.  Prayer is a time for us to enter the presence of the Creator and Ruler of the Universe to understand what is on His mind and heart.  Prayer is a holy privilege made possible by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on our behalf.  There is nothing more important than seeking God’s will in everything we do and for the past 38 years we have humbly asked for His direction and help through this ministry.
